in a continuing effort to promote contemporary Iowan and Midwestern music, we at
neotone records hosted our first ROCK PROGRESS SHOW on December 6th at the
Des Moines pub The House of Bricks

we are proud to say that the show was a fantastic success!  nearly 200 people
turned out to see performances by three of Iowa's finest music groups:  shiver,
[wreckage of the modern city], and retrograde.  the show was co-emceed by
LAZER 103.3
DJ Shawn Taylor and Lazer Rock Girl Sara, with a special guest
appearance by LAZER DJ Cory Brown.

opening the ROCK PROGRESS SHOW was Cedar Falls' melodic metal band
shiver
.  it is pleasing to see the artistic spirit in our juniors, and these four -
vocalist Tom Kelly, guitarist Jordan Shafer, bassist Brian Rogers, and drummer
Josh Sparks - exuded all the raw energy and abandon of their teenage years,
putting on a solid show.

the show reached its peak when our flagship artist [wreckage of the modern city]
took the stage.  at the beginning of the set, neotone president Thom Ancell
welcomed the warm crowd to the show, saying:  "there is great music all over
the country, and the music in Iowa is no exception."  displaying both old and new
material, wreckage drilled through their kaleidoscopic set with surgical precision,
putting on arguably their best performance.

closing the show was underground perennial retrograde, sporting their self-coined
music genre American Basscore.  as this label suggests, this hard-hitting quartet is
flanked by two bassists.  accompanied by vocalist Joni Lawler and founder-
percussionist Jason Handy, retrograde is a testament to the importance of new
and unique music artistry, and they clearly demonstrated that on stage.

we would sincerely like to thank The House of Bricks, KAZR 103.3, shiver,
{wreckage of the modern city], and retrograde for helping make our first
ROCK PROGRESS SHOW a success.

we would also like to thank the great people who attended.  to show our gratitude,
we have included many of your photos in our online photo album.
